PRELUDE. Confident at the start and fair in style, but brass and percussion not always in agreement re tempo!

Good dynamic contrasts before B and good mercato at C. D doesn't feel sure and you don't arrive at E together. Some neat playing but also some untidy ensemble.

SONG: Rather heavy and unbalanced at the start. Cornet could be more lyrical. The tempo is rather quick and you lose some of the music's character. Fair at F through G and tutti at H is well balanced. Tuning from 83 is poor (cornets C) and the ending is untidy.

DANCE: Fair clarity at the start but the tempo is quick and you accelerate. There are some good individual moments and fine attention to detail. You capture the style at O and there is much to commend from Q. Final bars are a little untidy. Rall?

Overall a mixed performance - some fine moments but also some loose ensemble, especially in Prelude. David Lancaster.

PRELUDE> A compact operning - a bit lacking in maestoso style. Watch the dynamics in ? A-B effectively contrasted. B forceful but not overdone. C general detail is heard. D not qite balanced but a good contrast is made. E takes time to settle. Close: fair.

SONG Rather heavy in t he opening and not really balanced or in tune. Rather brisk tempo - doesn't let the music sing. Secure solo cornet. Euph and horn overshadowed in tune. G-H doesn't sit comfortably. H settles and a good ensemble noise is heard. A little steadier tempo would have enhanced this movement. Close needs a little more attention.

DANCE. Well detailed opening. Very brisk tempo ensues - this is a dance not a race. I don't hear all the actual details. I hear the poor tuning though!! L-M fair. M Lower lines need more space for all the notes to speak. O-P effective and onwards. A shade insecure in the approach t o Q. Better from Q and onwards through P. Effective perc. and a convincing close is made.

Some good moments heard. More attention to style and tempo would have enhanced. Thank you very much. Derek Broadbent.
